Well we made it!!!

Well it wasn't the greatest start but let's hope all the dramas are out of the way!
Thomas is in Europe without a boat as the courier company couldn't get it to Auckland from the deep south in time. It made it to Christchurch but then the planes couldn't take it. At this stage it will be here in a couple of days and we will just make a plan to come back to Munich airport and collect it. At least he has clothes- Eric's bag went missing so he is borrowing gear- no real problems except for his size!!! At least he has his passport this year...

The flight was good, 5 pm is a great time to leave - we went via Brisbane, Singapore and Dubai so some pretty long legs to get some sleep. Food and service good on Emirates so no one hungry.
Arrived in Munich about 1.15pm Friday afternoon and we got the vehicle- new Peugeot 807, and our gear in- quite a squash but once we meet up with Kidda (coach) will be able to offload a bit to him. Checked into our hotel whch is in Eching about 10km from the airport. Only took one wrong turn so relatively stress free!
After showers we walked to the train station and headed into Marienplatz- centre of Munich. Just wandered around soaking in the sights- great to see the expressions and hear the comments of the kids who hadn't been before as this was the first taste of the awesome buildings and the age and sights of Europe.
I deployed ( for Sarge) the troups with some Euros in the food market to gather some food and we re grouped under some gorgeous old trees with 100's of locals and tourists- it was a huge outdoor beergarden and food market. We met some locals as we picnicked on giant pretzels, dips, ham, salami, cheese ( one too smelly for the team ) and 1kg cheeries- only 4Euros!!
After more wanderings and lots of photos we hit the Hofbrahaus- tiredness was setting in but a great atmosphere and wonderful way to start the trip.
It was a challenge to stay awake on the train - didnt want to miss our stop but Shaun kept an eye on the stops and we made it back to the hotel without mishap.
Meeting at 9 for brekkie and then try to locate bags, kayaks and get our phones sorted- not working yet!! The plan is to be in Prague tonight- meet Kidda and watch some racing tommorrow.
Guten nacht for now- cheers Sue and the team

Good to hear you are all fit and well and relatively hassle free. Hope you get the kayak sorted without having to return to Munich. We lost the Rugby 20-15 after leading 15-6 at half time, and also the yaghting, we were in the lead for half the race but took a wrong wind option. Now 4/2 so have 2 win 2 nite.Need some match sticks. Take Care
